How to Put iPhone, iPad, iPod touch into Recovery Mode

What is iPhone Recovery Mode?

iPhone/iPad/iPod touch recovery mode is a state of iBoot that is used to reflash the device with a new operating system, whether the presently installed one is somehow damaged or the device is undergoing an upgrade with iTunes.

What is Recovery Mode Used for?

If you want to change the device's firmware, or update iOS, or your iPhone, iPod touch, iPad won’t even show up in iTunes, or your iPhone, iPad, iPod doesn’t response, you can downgrade your iOS. Then you need to put iPhone/iPad/iPod in recovery mode. Once your device is in recovery mode, you can proceed to the restoration process.

How to Put iPhone, iPad, iPod touch into recovery mode?

Note: When you have to put your iPhone in Recovery mode, please make sure that you backup iPhone to iTunes or iCloud. So you can restore iPhone and get your iPhone safety.

Step 1: Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer’s USB port.

Step 2: Turn off the device. Press and hold the "Home" and "Sleep" buttons on your iPhone at the same time until your device screen goes black.
If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons at the same time. When the device turns off, release the "Sleep/Wake" and "Home" buttons.

Step 3: While pressing and holding the Home button, and connect the USB cable to your iPhone. When you reconnect the USB cable to iPhone, the device should power on.
Note: If you see the screen pictured below, let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again.

Step 4: Continue holding the "Home" button until you see the “Connect to iTunes” screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button:

Step 5: If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following “recovery mode” alert window:

Step 6: Your iPhone will now enter into recovery mode. Use iTunes to restore the device. If you don’t see the “Connect to iTunes” screen, try these steps again.

NOTE: This is the same process for both iPods and iPads as well.
